802.1Q VLAN Trunking *NEW*

Last Updated: Jul 24, 2014 05:00PM COT

This article applies for Webwise Gigabit Switch (ASBRM164U & ASBRM244U).

IEEE 802.1Q (sometimes referred to as 1Q or DOT1Q) is a industry standards based implementation of carring traffic for multiple VLANs on a single trunking interface between two Ethernet switches. 802.1Q is for Ethernet networks only. This switch has 2 trunking features: VLAN and 802.1Q VLAN trunking.

To enable the 802.1Q VLAN Trunking on your switch, please follow the steps below:

1. Connect your Nexxt router to your PC with an Ethernet cable on the port 1 of your switch.
2. Verify that your PC has created the Local Area network on Network Connections.

3. Verify that the Firewall and Antivirus system are disabled to avoid any problems or restrictions.
4. Once all connected,  open your browser (IE,Mozilla,Firefox, etc) and enter the IP address of the router "" by default. This will prompt you to type some credentials to access the router webpage.

5. Use "admin" as user and password.

6. Go to "VLAN" and then go to "802.1Q VLAN trunking".

7. As an example, you will choose ports 2,3,4 to be pointed to VLAN 2,3,4. The port #5 will be as 802.1Q VLAN Trunk port, and it will allow packets to go thought VLAN 2,3,4. On that case, first define port #2 and #5 into VLAN 2, Port #3 and #5 to VLAN 3, and port #4 and #5 into VLAN 4.

8.  Configure PVID, PVID to port 2 selects 2, PVID to port 3 selects 3, PVID to port 4 selects 4, PVID to port 5 is configured as default PVID 1 (Now port 5 is "Trunk Port", Trunk Port should be selected as Tagged, other Port 1,2,3,4 should be selected as "Untagged").
